Ambedkar Jayanti:  Dr BR Ambedkar 126th birth anniversary 

Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891. Popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar or BR Ambedkar, he was the architect of the Constitution of India and was India's first Minister of Law and Justice. This year is Dr BR Ambedkar's 126th birth anniversary.

He had a doctorate in economics and political science from Columbia University and the London School of Economics. In the Constitution of India, Ambedkar guaranteed freedom to the citizens and introduced the abolition of untouchability and reservation for jobs for all reserved categories.

Ambedkar opposed Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. In 1990, B R Ambedkar was posthumously honoured with India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna. 

Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar fought against 'untouchability' throughout his life. He played a major role in Mahatma Gandhi-led Harijan movement, protesting against social injustices faced by people from backward castes.
